パリ和平協定の日・Paris Peace Agreement Day

29年前の今日、パリ和平協定が結ばれ、長年続いていたカンボジアの内戦がついに終結しました。

パリ和平協定は、フランス・パリにおいて、カンボジア、フランス、日本、中国、シンガポールなど19カ国が署名し、締結されました。この協定により、翌年カンボジアにPKO（国連平和維持活動）部隊が派遣され、カンボジアの復興・開発を推進した結果、現在の平和と経済の安定がもたらされました。

もともと「パリ和平協定の日」は祝日でしたが、今年からカンボジア政府の意向で廃止されました。

On this day 29 years ago, the Paris Peace Agreement was first signed, and it marked the end of the Civil War in Cambodia, which had troubled the country for decades.

The peace treaty, held in Paris, France (and hence the name), was signed and witnessed by 19 countries, including Cambodia, France, Japan, China, Singapore and so on. The peace agreement eventually led to the deployment of U.N. peacekeepers in Cambodia the following year, and it paved a way for the recovery and redevelopment of Cambodia, bringing about peace and stability since then.

Originally, the Paris Peace Agreement Day was supposed to be a national holiday, however it was removed by the Cambodian government from this year onwards.
